The city of Alpharetta does not sell electricity. Power in Alpharetta comes from an investor-owned utility, Georgia Power, or from Sawnee EMC, a member-owned electric cooperative whose service area includes part of Fulton County. The company that serves your home is the one named on your power bill. Report outages to that company, not to the city.

Storms and trees
If a storm brings a tree down on a power line, report it as an outage to your utility. Alpharetta Public Works maintains the city’s rights of way, 678-297-6200. For trees on private property, the city explains what needs a permit on its emergency storm tree removal page.
For weather warnings, the National Weather Service office in Peachtree City covers Alpharetta. Its forecast for Alpharetta carries any active watch or warning.
In a widespread outage
When storms knock out power across the area, road hazards such as blocked roads or dark intersections go to the Alpharetta Department of Public Safety’s main line, 678-297-6300, or 911 in an emergency. The Atlanta-Fulton County Emergency Management Agency posts preparedness guidance, including what to keep at home, on its Plan and Prepare page.
What this means for you
- Find your utility’s name on your bill now and save its outage number in your phone.
- Check the outage map before calling; both utilities also take outage reports by text.
- Downed line: 911 first, utility second.
- Water and gas emergencies go to Fulton County and Atlanta Gas Light, not the city.
