Last checked 2026-10-03. Facts on this page come from the City of Alpharetta’s trash and recycling pages.

The city of Alpharetta contracts with Republic Services for household trash, recycling, yard waste and bulky waste pickup at every home in the city. Service is mandatory and billed quarterly in advance by the city. Your carts need to be at the curb by 7 a.m. on your pickup day.

  • Missed pickup, damaged cart, bulk pickup: Republic Services customer service, 678-407-6216, or email Republic’s Alpharetta team
  • Billing, new service, no reply from Republic within 24 hours: city customer service, 678-297-6060 (option 0)

What day is my pickup?

Trash, recycling and yard waste are all picked up weekly, on the same service day. The city publishes the day for every street in the Residential Sanitation Pickup Day List (PDF), sorted by street name. Service days run Monday through Friday.

If your cart is not emptied on your normal day, leave it at the curb through the next day. The city says Republic’s standard practice when it runs late is to service those addresses the following day. If the next day passes and the cart is still full, use the city’s Report Trash Related Issues form, which goes to city staff and to Republic at the same time.

You can sign up for text alerts about service delays with the Sanitation Text Notification Opt-In Form.

Holiday schedule

Pickup shifts for only three holidays: New Year’s Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. If your pickup day falls on one of those holidays, or later in that same week, your pickup moves one day later for the rest of that week.

For the holidays coming up:

Holiday Date What happens
Thanksgiving Thursday, Nov. 26 Thursday pickup moves to Friday, Nov. 27; Friday pickup moves to Saturday, Nov. 28
Christmas Friday, Dec. 25 Friday pickup moves to Saturday, Dec. 26
New Year’s Day Friday, Jan. 1, 2027 Friday pickup moves to Saturday, Jan. 2

The city says trash, recycling and yard waste run on the normal schedule on every other holiday, including Columbus Day, Veterans Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The dates in the table apply the city’s one-day rule to the 2026 calendar; check the holiday schedule or your text alerts before you roll the cart out.

Bulk pickup

Bulky items are included in the base fee, but you must request bulk pickup at least 72 hours ahead, online or by calling Republic at 678-407-6216. According to the city’s bulk waste page:

  • Republic collects up to two bulk items a week, weighing less than 100 pounds in total. Republic charges for items over that weight.
  • Accepted: wrapped mattresses, box springs, stoves, refrigerators (all Freon removed), water tanks, washers and dryers, furniture, metal bed frames, up to 20 flattened boxes, six pieces of wood up to 6 feet long, and Christmas trees.
  • Not accepted: sinks, toilets, anything that was attached to the house, metal fencing, old CRT (box) televisions, riding and push lawn mowers, and gas or propane tanks.

Yard waste

Yard waste goes out weekly by 7 a.m. on your service day, according to the city’s yard waste page:

  • Up to 10 paper lawn bags, or up to five 35-gallon cans.
  • Tree limbs no longer than 3 feet and no thicker than 6 inches, tied in bundles, up to 10 bundles.

Glass and hazardous waste

Curbside recycling does not take glass. Alpharetta residents can drop glass, and only glass, at the unstaffed drop-off center in the Public Works parking lot at 1790 Hembree Road, open 24 hours a day. The city says cameras and license plate readers watch the site and that people who leave other items will be cited.

The city holds two community collections a year for household hazardous waste: paint (other than latex), automotive fluids and home and garden chemicals. Only city residents can take part, and registration is required. Call Public Works at 678-297-6200 for the next date, or see the paint and hazardous waste page.

What it costs

Rates from the city’s Service Schedule & Rates page, billed quarterly. Every base rate includes trash, recycling, yard waste and bulk pickup.

Service Price
95-gallon trash cart and 65-gallon recycling cart $93.79 a quarter
68-gallon trash cart and 65-gallon recycling cart $87.67 a quarter
Seniors 65 and older, and customers with disabilities or special needs $41.53 a quarter
The same customers who meet income limits $0
Each extra trash or recycling cart $33.35 a quarter
Bag tag for trash outside the city carts $2 a tag
Replacement cart for cosmetic reasons $100

Paying a full year in advance, between June 1 and July 1, takes 5% off every rate except tags; that payment is not refundable. Seniors and customers with disabilities apply with the Senior, Disability, or Special Needs Application (PDF), which also covers backdoor pickup for those who qualify. Bag tags are sold at City Hall, 2 Park Plaza.

Starting or stopping service

New homeowners and anyone moving out use the city’s Establish/Terminate Trash Service Form. Pay a bill online through the city’s utility billing portal.

What this means for you

  • Carts out by 7 a.m.; a cart put out at 8 a.m. may already have been missed.
  • Thanksgiving and Christmas weeks run a day late after the holiday. Every other holiday runs on schedule.
  • Book bulk pickup three days ahead, and keep it to two items.
  • Glass goes to Hembree Road, not the recycling cart.
