Wills Park

Wills Park, off Old Milton Parkway and Wills Road near downtown, is the city’s main park and the site of its Fourth of July fireworks. It includes:

  • Wills Park Recreation Center, 11925 Wills Road, home of city athletics, 678-297-6130.
  • Wills Park Pool, 1815 Old Milton Parkway, 678-297-6107: a leisure pool with zero-depth entry, play stations and a water slide, a 10-lane competition pool and two diving boards. Daily admission during the summer season is $5 for residents and $10 for others; children 3 and under are free.
  • Wills Park Equestrian Center, 11915 Wills Road, 678-297-6122: 50 acres with eight barns, 298 stalls and a covered ring.
  • Waggy World Paw Park, 175 Roswell St., behind the Alpharetta Community Center: a fenced, 1.5-acre off-leash dog park.
  • The Grove at Wills Park, behind the community center, home of the city’s fall Boo Bash.

Big Creek Greenway

The greenway is a 12-foot-wide concrete path through the woods along Big Creek. The city puts its total length, from Union Hill Park to Mansell Road, at about 12 miles. A soft mulch trail circles a wetland between Haynes Bridge Road and Mansell Road, where the city says blue herons, deer, ducks and geese can be seen. Dirt mountain bike trails sit on the east side of the creek, about 2/5 mile south of Webb Bridge Road.

Ways in, from the city’s greenway page:

  • Ed Isakson/Alpharetta YMCA, off North Point Parkway at Preston Ridge Road.
  • Haynes Bridge Road, a lot on the east side, south of North Point Parkway.
  • North Point Mall area, off North Point Parkway between Mansell and Haynes Bridge roads, with restrooms.
  • Rock Mill Park, Kimball Bridge Road, with parking and restrooms. The city says this area can flood in heavy rain.
  • Marconi Drive, off Windward Parkway, a small lot at the north end.
  • Union Hill Park, off Union Hill Road and Little Pine Trail.

The city posts greenway closures for flooding or maintenance in the Statusfy app (search “Alpharetta Recreation, Parks & Cultural Services”) and on its social media.

Dog park rules

Waggy World Paw Park is open from 8 a.m. to sunset. The city’s rules include: every dog must wear a rabies tag and be vaccinated; owners pick up after their dogs (bags are provided); no more than three dogs per handler; and a handler 16 or older with a leash must be present. Some water fountains are shut off in winter.

Old Rucker Farm

Old Rucker Park, a former commercial nursery, is home to the city’s community agriculture program. The developed acre has organic vegetable, fruit, flower and herb gardens, a pollinator garden, community garden plots, beehives, a chicken coop, an orchard, a greenhouse and an outdoor classroom. In September the city said the farm had received a $300,000 grant from Lowe’s (city release).

Mid-Broadwell Park

The city’s newest neighborhood park, at 1480 Mid Broadwell Road, has a walking trail and a playground with slides, a rope swing and water play stations. It is meant mainly for people who walk in, so parking is limited. Its $500,000 buildout came from the $29.5 million parks bond Alpharetta voters approved in November 2021, which the city says supports its goal of a park within a 10-minute walk of every resident.
