Public schools in Alpharetta are run by Fulton County Schools, not the city. The district has its own elected Board of Education and its own share of your property tax bill. School attendance zones do not follow city limits, so an Alpharetta address can be zoned to a high school in Milton, Johns Creek or Roswell.

Ratings: the state report card

Georgia no longer issues A-to-F letter grades for schools; the state says it stopped as of the 2022-23 school year. Its school reports now show a single score on the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), on a scale of 0 to 100. Look up any school on the School Grades viewer or the federal ESSA report card.

Bar chart of 2025 CCRPI single scores: Innovation Academy 99.7, Northview 98.5, Chattahoochee 96.8, Alpharetta 93.0, Milton 92.8, Cambridge 92.7, Centennial 88.5

Enrolling a new student

New families register online through the district’s Infinite Campus portal and upload documents with the application, according to the district’s enrollment pages. The steps: read the enrollment policy, find your zoned school, gather documents, apply online, then give your school the application number. You will need:

  • ID for the parent or guardian;
  • Georgia Form 3300 (eye, ear, dental and nutrition screening) and Form 3231 (immunizations);
  • proof of the child’s date of birth; and
  • two current proofs of residency: one electric or water bill (gas bills are not accepted) and one mortgage, lease, sales contract, HUD document, HOA bill or tax bill.

A student whose documents are delayed can be provisionally enrolled for 30 days. Kindergarten students must be 5 by Sept. 1.

Board of Education meetings

From the board’s meeting calendar:

  • Work sessions: Tuesday, Oct. 13; Tuesday, Nov. 10; Tuesday, Dec. 8. North Learning Center, 450 Northridge Parkway, Sandy Springs. Public comment is typically at 6 p.m.
  • Board meetings: Thursday, Oct. 22; Thursday, Nov. 19; Thursday, Dec. 17, at 6 p.m. South Learning Center, 4025 Flat Shoals Road, Union City.

What this means for you

  • Look up your zoned school before you buy or rent; it may not be in Alpharetta.
  • Schools are closed Monday, Oct. 12, and students learn from home on Election Day, Nov. 3.
  • Have two proofs of residency ready to enroll, and note that a gas bill does not count.
